how to prevent winter static

It’s that time of year again…. The cold, dry air sucks up any moisture in your mane, leaving sleek, straight styles riddled with static. So what to do??

There are a few things you can do to stop static from ruining your good hair days this winter. Let’s start at the beginning of the day and work our way through it…

  • After the shower apply a light moisturizing product, like Soma leave-in conditioner, or some type of light weight moisturizing cream for hair. Rub a nickel to quarter size amount (depending on the amount of hair you have) into your palms and lightly smooth over your hair. This will work for all textures of hair and will work instantly. Remember to keep it away from your scalp to avoid becoming greasy. Your scalp produces its own oils, let it do its job.
  • If you carry a larger purse or bag with you, go to the travel section of your local drugstore and grab a travel size can of Static Guard. Store a travel size can and a paddle brush in your bag for static cling emergencies. Hold brush arms length away and spray bristles with static guard. Brush hair. Voila! Static gone!

  • For those of you with smaller purses or just pockets grab some dryer sheets and put them in a ziplock bag. When you’re out and about and get some static cling happening simply take out one dryer sheet and rub it down your hair. Tame hair in seconds!
  • Deep Conditioning Treatments!!! As moisture leaves the air in the winter it also leaves our hair.
